Co-ordinators report

25th July 2002

Dear Helmspeople and Principals,

1. REMAR ADVISORY BOARD
The board will be meeting again on Wednesday July 31st . If you have anything you would like raised there please let me know as soon as possible. The board is continuing to discuss strategic planning for the coming years and is making steady progress in looking at the major issues facing our future.

2. PILGRIMAGE
After much planning and apprehension as to whether this was one of Sammo's crazy ideas, it has finally come to fruition. And what an adventure it was. Such a diverse group may have never been seen before or will ever be seen again. Ranging from seventeen to fifty something in age, from students to priests. In the face of such diversity the experience still managed to make an indelible impact on each member of the group. In Paris we experienced the history and culture of the revolution that was the context of Marcellin's life. From Paris we moved on to Taize where we were part of a community of two and a half thousand young people celebrating and exploring their faith. It was an extraordinarily confirming experience and an amazing atmosphere of peace and joy. Finally we reached the destination of our pilgrimage, the home of Marcellin Champagnat in Le Rosey, the Hermitage and the spectacular surrounding countryside. Walking in his footsteps and living in his world, his vision and message became real.

"I could not see a child without telling them how much God loved them." -Marcellin Champagnat-

3. GOLD LEADERSHIP CAMP
GOLD LEADERSHIP CAMP: JULY 20TH - 22ND
There were 60 people in attendance at AMBERLEY including SALE, WARRAGUL, TRARALGON, MARCELLIN, DARWIN, SHEPPARTON and PENOLA.
It was the last point of contact for the Gold Caravel of 2002. Despite the fact that it was the end of their journey there was little time for looking back. The focus of the camp was on vocation. The year twelves were challenged to move forward and make use of all that Remar has given them and all they posses to make a difference in their community and the wider community.
Highlights of the event were the second Remar Trivia Extravaganza. Corruption ran rife as did the riotous laughter and bad karaoke.

4. WODONGA AND ALBURY
After some serious consideration Catholic College Wodonga and Xavier Catholic College, Albury have both advised that they will not be starting REMAR in the coming year. Both have decided that in light of major restructuring at the present time, it would be unwise to take on REMAR. The door has been left open should they consider it an option in the future.

5. bunbury and newman combined caravel day
There were 35 students in attendance, 18 from BUNBURY, 17 from NEWMAN COLLEGE
The Western Australia Combined Caravel Camp took place from the 13th to the 14th of June. Paul Fogarty and the Helmspeople from Bunbury and Newman led the camp at which the red caravels from the two schools met each other for the first time. A great time was had and the spirit of community was extremely strong. The future looks extremely bright fro Remar W.A.
